An extensive yet concise look at the career of one, Andy Diaz.

When I was six years old I remember walking to my abuela’s house in Mexico and seeing the sign painters painting letters on walls and windows. It was imperfect and beautiful, that moment would stick with me and help nurture my general interest in design for years to come.

By age twelve I was in art classes but I found that recreating record label’s logos and the script on the Swingline stapler was much more rewarding than drawing well lit fruit.

In high school my perceived melancholy led me to photography and creative writing. The mechanical nature of the 35mm camera felt romantic and sparked my understanding and appreciation for process and concept. Those hours in the dark room taught me patience and disappointment.

University was the first realization that these seemingly disparate creative puzzle pieces I had picked up could coalesce into a real career. Since that moment I’ve been trying, failing, and succeeding at pushing myself and learning new things.

In my 9+ years of experience I’ve had the joy of working in-house, at branding studios, and at some amazing agencies. I am now freelancing full time.

Contrary to how it looks, I am in fact very happy in this photo.
