Oliver had previously been selling his coffee beans in brown kraft bags with thermal printed labels.
Once our system and brand update was introduced, he saw an uptick in weekly sales of 280%
Brand affinity grew and as customers started seeing the system in use on the bags, they quickly asked for merch, we implemented pre orders and sold out of every item we printed, not too bad.
Oliver never set out to have a coffee roasting business, but as his cafe’s reputation grew and grew he realized he needed to maximize the potential for revenue without opening another store. Solution? Open another business instead! Thus Parley Coffee Roasters was born.
Inspired by the people who frequented Lula Rose (his coffee shop) and the overall vibe of Colfax, Parley’s aesthetic was born. We dug deep into inside jokes, eccentric customers, and coffee lingo to build the foundation of what Parley was and who it was for. What came from that brainstorm was a beautiful system of illustration and irreverent tone of voice that meshed easily with the laid back vibe of Lula Rose.
Start with the dumbest idea and work back from there
Having total creative freedom can feel incredibly stifling. Our brief was essentially
make the brand able to function in B&W
the name is a must and draws inspo from chit chat and pirate slang, paying homage to the rag tag way in which the biz manifested
Will and I took that and ran with it, we knew early on we wanted human illustrations and the lingo was inspired by coffee shop talk and short hand with your buddies.
